The Intelligent Tape Archive is
More Than an Offsite Data Vault™

Make Molehills out of Mountains.

Companies the world over are tackling an increasingly complex and high-risk data challenge, that of what to do with their legacy data, and a traditional offsite data vault doesn’t meet their needs. Legacy data often resides on tape and and an offsite data vault has insufficient information about what resides on those tapes that were backed up. As such, these tapes have become, essentially, “disconnected” archives, because the keys/intelligence to providing any actionable event on them reside elsewhere – at best – or simply do not exist at all.

The Intelligent Tape Archive from S2|DATA is so much more than an offsite data vault. It is a proprietary set of software, services, and security that combine to powerfully add structure and knowledge to legacy data pools while simultaneously eliminating the need for any and all resources inside a company that have been devoted to managing the data – not to mention the cost and risk that goes with it.

Futureproof your legacy.
The primary advantage and exceptional value of the Intelligent Tape Archive (over a traditional offsite data vault) is the application of a layer of intelligence over previously “disconnected” tapes, enabling every possible action that might be needed or want to be taken now or in the future. Managed by the client or S2|DATA through Invenire, our online metadata review portal, providing faster time to data and delivering insight on demand. Simply stated, Invenire on AWS is all that’s required to transform your outmoded legacy environment into an Intelligent Tape Archive.

Just because it’s in a cloud doesn’t mean it’s smarter.
To the contrary – migrating data en-masse from tape to the cloud is simply not the best move – without the intelligence to make it useful. The reason is simple: after years of largely unstructured data being added to tape archives with varying retention schedules and questionable values, a mass move to the cloud only means you’ll end up paying more for hosting and moving large amounts of data in the future, 90% of which you probably don’t need.

When it comes to legacy data storage, less is more.
For companies who want to permanently remove data existing on tapes that is either junk, not useful to the business, or not required for compliance or litigation, The Intelligent Tape Archive enables the immediate and ongoing fulfillment of those objectives. Metadata stays in the Cloud, essential retained data on tape, moved to the cloud later if required.

Through use of S2|DATA’s non-native file restoration and migration technologies, such as TRACS, we can selectively migrate only the data classes, files and custodians that are required to keep. Its retroactive data privacy management from an archived state without the costs of data restoration.

The Intelligent Tape Archive is the final and ultimate resting place for data on tape. With our complete suite of Legacy Data Management Services, the data never needs to leave our highly secure ISO certified facility. The results are:
